Naval Marine Composite Structures
Marshall Advanced Composites has over 30 years’ experience of producing composite structures for a range of surface ship and submarine applications.
Our understanding of the loads that impact complex structures in harsh environments means we are able to help OEMs and end users develop a wide range of equipment.
Example - The Mk8 Mod 1 Naval Gunshield
The Gunshield was developed on behalf of the Royal Navy and has a proven in-service history on frigates and destroyers. This unit reduces the radar cross section while also providing the structural integrity to cope with loads including wave slap, hail and ice, impact and the pressures experienced during the operation of the gun.
Design and manufacture
Our experience of producing the Gunshield can be applied easily to other applications which would benefit from similar features, such as:
- Low radar cross section – through a faceted design and by embedding layers of specialist materials
- Structural integrity – achieved by using a glass vinyl ester with a core material or other composite sandwich structures
- Durability – the composite construction means it remains corrosion resistant and needs only a low level of maintenance reducing through-life costs
We also have engineering analysis tools for finite element modelling, computational fluid dynamics and shock analysis. Our structural test centre lets us validate theoretical analysis - including mechanical testing of material and sub-assemblies following climatic conditioning up to full scale simulations.
We can take your technical requirements and provide a fully-qualified product ready for manufacture and delivery.
